NACA Middle School
A Message from Mr. Kellen, the 6-8 Head of School.
Keshi-Hello NACA families.
As we head towards the end of this school year, we are gearing up for a student presentations and capstone projects.
On May 20th, our 8th grade students will be presenting on their Genius Hour Capstone Projects at our high school campus. Culminating with the 8th grade promotion at Route 66 Casino.
Our 6th and 7th grade will be presenting on their demonstration projects on May 27th at main campus.
These demonstration projects are a way to showcase student learning starting at 6th grade; building on each grade, and ending with a student embodying our 8th Grade Graduation Profile-rooted in NACA Core Values.
At the beginning of the year I mentioned 4 big ideas, below are some ways we have achieved these ideas:
* Return of Rigor: What this means is pushing students in their Intellectual Wellness.
Highlights: Presentations from community partners/student support, knowledge keepers and outings that directly connect to intellectual wellness. Continued connections and collaborations with content/subject areas have increased student learning and understanding of concepts.
Improvements: Consistent schedule throughout each quarter and semester.
* Return of Challenges: School wide challenges that will promote positive ways to showcase their socio/emotional wellness.
Highlights: Spirit weeks, advisory challenges, student scholar tags, and student led initiatives.
Improvements: inclusion of more student led ideas.
* Continuation of Demos: all middle school students will participate in showcasing their knowledge.
Highlights: Genius Hour 8th grade Capstone evolution. 6/7th grade demonstration evolution.
* Continuation of Learning Outside Four Walls: Student outdoor/land based experiences shape who they are and who they can became.
Highlights: Continued collection of data from students for outings and connections with each content areas. Student learning and connections with each outings for each grade levels.
Improvements: Field journal inclusion to encourage 8th grade Genuis Hour Capstones.
