New Parent/Family Information Meetings
NACA will hold a series of Parent Information
meetings throughout Albuquerque during the 2009-2010
school year. If your organization is interested
in hosting a meeting please contact Tracy Goodluck
at 266-0992 to schedule a date and time.
Family Meetings
A NACA representative will conduct individually
scheduled meetings with newly accepted students.
These meetings are intended to provide our families
with a one-on-one information session about
NACA. Any questions and concerns may be addressed
at this time. It also gives us a chance to assess
the strengths and challenges of the student
so we may better meet the needs of our students
and families. Please call Duta Flying Earth
to schedule a family meeting.
How does the lottery work?
The New Mexico State Department of Education
has designed a lottery system that requires
charter schools to hold an open enrollment procedure.
Once you have completed the initial lottery
application, your name will be placed on a list
for enrollment. On January 31, 2010 we will
hold a lottery drawing and the first 60 names
drawn will be admitted for the 2010– 2011
school year for the sixth grade. The remaining
students will be placed on a waiting list and
called when a space opens. New 7th -11th graders
will be accepted if there are openings at those
grade levels for the upcoming school year. Siblings
do receive preference if the family is currently
enrolled at NACA.
Do I have to do this every year?
No. Once students are entered into the academy,
they will have preference over any new students
annually. We anticipate that your long-term
investment in your child’s future, well-being
and education will be with the Native American
Community Academy as we grow together. Just
as the students will create bonds with one another,
we also believe strong bonds among our parents
will ensure a nurturing, high performing, supportive
and safe school environment.
How will I be notified?
The school will contact all parents via a letter
of confirmation delivered to the address indicated
on your lottery enrollment application at the
end of each lottery. Parents will be contacted
to schedule a family meeting and to complete
the in person registration process with a NACA
Staff Member.
